Mexico is a country with much to offer tourists, in fact, there are many visitors who come to this nation with the intention of enjoying the warm waters of its beaches or to admire the ancient vestiges of legendary cultures that are still preserved. However, few know the true charm of Mexican cities, their people, neighborhoods and typical customs. Today we take a tour of some of the most interesting cities in Mexico .

1. Veracruz, city-municipality of enormous beauty

Historically, Veracruz has gone down in the books for having been the landing place for Hernán Cortés and his troops during the conquest of America. However, this was not the only time that the natives were forced to face invasions from the Spanish, French and Americans, the latter on two occasions. What’s more, the city therefore bears the title of “Four times heroic”.

This urban nucleus, due to its perfect strategic location, has the most famous and important port in Mexico, since it serves as a key point in the Caribbean, Latin and transoceanic trade routes.

In the old town you can visit the  c atedral of Our Lady of the Assumption, the Municipal Palace and old harbormaster.

In its vicinity, travelers can visit the El Arrecifal ecological park, where countless corals are home to crustaceans, mollusks and fish of many species. If we are lucky, we may have the magical opportunity to spot manatees.

2. Acapulco, where tourism is magnified

Acapulco de Juárez is the largest city in the state of Guerrero. It is one of the most populated towns in the nation and one of the best known for its beautiful beaches.

Its neighborhoods are divided into three parts: Acapulco Dorado, Acapulco Diamante and Acapulco Traditional. The first two make up the richest and most luxurious areas of the population. In them are located millionaire mansions in which some of the richest personalities of Latin America spend their vacations and their free time.

The traditional area, for its part, can be considered of great tourist interest and that is where the historic center of the town and its spectacular port go hand in hand. It is a very lively and lively place. Its most famous beaches are Playa Papagayo and Playa Caleta.

3. Mexico City, gigantic urban nucleus

Mexico City, which until a few years ago was known as Mexico Federal District, is the capital of the country. Its total population is so high that it is considered one of the largest and most spectacular urban agglomerations today.

It was founded and built by the Aztecs, who made it the capital of the empire. Two centuries later, the Spanish managed to get hold of it and the enormous and colorful splendor of its streets collapsed. However, in their wake they encountered great resistance from the locals who came to win on the battlefield on some occasions, such as the famous Noche Triste.

Regarding tourism, this town is one of the most visited by foreigners from other parts of Latin America and the US. In the city, you should not miss the Palacio de Bellas Artes, the Metropolitan Cathedral or the Chapultepec castle, among other attractions.

4. Guadalajara, the center of Jalisco

One of the most impressive cathedrals in the entire nation is found in the Jalisco region of Guadalajara. The Basilica of the Asunción de María Santísima has two representative and curious towers that end in a pointed yellowish roof. At first, in the 16th century, it only had adobo walls and roofs made of straw.

Very close to it is the Government Palace, inside which we can see spectacular paintings and murals that recreate moments of strong local historical relevance.

For its part, the Hospicio Cabañas is also an essential visit since it was declared a World Heritage Site in 1997. This building, of neoclassical architectural style, has always been used to fight against hunger and ignorance in equal measure.

However, if what we want is to know a true and authentic enclave that has passed down to posterity for its significance in humanitarian causes, we cannot leave out the Degollado Theater. This is so because in its interior slavery was definitively abolished in the 19th century.
