3. Kunstanstalt

It is a prison of the SA, the germ of Hitler’s SS. This prison was in operation between 1901 and 1965, the year in which it was closed. Many prisoners were tortured and murdered in this place, especially Jews, the disabled and Gypsies. Kunstanstalt is located on the outskirts of Berlin and is one of the places less known by tourists.

Along the same lines, you can also visit the old Stasi prison, where anonymous citizens and politicians opposed to the communist regime passed.

4. Teufelsberg

It is an abandoned radar station that was used by American soldiers during the Cold War. Teufelsberg or “Devil’s Mountain”, is 114 meters high. This artificial mountain was formed thanks to the accumulation of meters and cubic meters of rubble.

It is located in the forests of Grunewald, one of the highest places in Berlin. If you want to know it, you just have to find out and hire a guided tour.

Burgermeister Berlin is a chain of restaurants whose specialty is hamburgers. Maybe you can think that there is nothing special about it. But it is the origin of the place that has projected its fame and has consolidated it as one of the symbols of the city of Berlin.

The interesting thing about Burgermeister Berlin is not its burgers but its history. And this chain was born in some remodeled public urinals, incredible, right? Its first place is still operational, so you can enjoy a delicious hamburger sitting in what used to be latrines, do you dare?

6.Villa Walther

Another curious place to see in Berlin is the Villa Walther. It is in the Grunewald neighborhood and has had an interesting and intriguing history. This villa is the work of the famous German builder Wilhelm Walter.

Inaugurated in 1912, Villa Walther meant the financial collapse of the wealthy businessman. It is said that its construction was commissioned by a Russian tycoon. This employment relationship ended in the worst of terms, which led to Walter bankruptcy and his subsequent suicide in the main tower of the town.

In 1938 the Third Reich bought the town and made it the headquarters of the School of Finance. During the Second World War its structure was seriously affected by the bombings. However, little by little it was restored and today it is the headquarters of the Institute of Romanian Culture.
