Salobreña is one of the most beautiful towns in Granada, and it has become an essential place to visit during a vacation on the Costa Tropical. A place that has everything to fascinate the visitor: history, popular architecture, great monuments, an enchanting natural environment and, of course, magnificent beaches.

The climate of Salobreña

Since we have anticipated that the beaches are one of the reasons for visiting Salobreña, we are going to tell you that here it is possible to enjoy them for much of the year.

And that is due to the wonderful climate of this area of the province of Granada. A territory in which the average annual temperature is around 20 degrees, and rarely drops below 15. A microclimate that must be enjoyed.

Eating in Salobreña

Although we did not say it at the beginning, we also want to mention that another of the great reasons to prepare a trip to Salobreña is to enjoy its typical dishes and products. Gastronomy, like everything here, is the result of a very long tradition and the fusion of different cultures.

However, it must be said that the great protagonism of the Salobreña stoves is taken by the products of the sea, among which there is no shortage of pickled fish, braised sardines in the form of skewers or dried octopus.

But we must not forget that we are in the so-called Costa Tropical, a name that is manifested in the most common fruits here: custard apples or avocados.

The monumental attractions

Now that we know that good weather is guaranteed and that we are going to eat excellently, we can tell you what things to see in Salobreña.

The old town

Before going into details of certain enclaves, we must stroll quietly through its old nucleus. All of it is located on the slopes of a hill in the rugged terrain. A veritable labyrinth of alleys unfolds there. In them it is difficult to orient oneself due to their layout and because they are absolutely white and adorned with abundant flowerpots.

One piece of advice, don’t worry about getting lost in those squares and streets. It is a real pleasure to walk through Salobreña, and thus the surprise is greater when we arrive at its most emblematic buildings, which we are now going to see.

The church of the Rosary

This is the main temple in Salobreña and it has been for centuries, since it was built in the 16th century in the Mudejar style. Although, there was a place of prayer here before, but it was a mosque.

The Rosario church is a wonderful example of local traditions, as it contains excellent samples of historical crafts with tiles and carpentry.

The Arab castle of Salobreña

For centuries this town on the coast of Granada was under Muslim rule, and practically this was the case until the fall of the Nasrid kingdom. That is, 8 centuries have eminently left their mark on the heritage of Salobreña, especially in its old castle at the top of the town, which is a must-see.

In the city of Granada there is a neighborhood of Albaycín, but there is also one in Salobreña. It is the neighborhood closest to the castle, and here we want to recommend you ascend to its viewpoint, which offers wonderful views of the environment. And whoever wants to know more about the place, must visit the Historical Museum of Salobreña that is in these streets.

The beaches of Salobreña

After walking through the town, it is time to descend to sea level, and cool off at any of the beaches in the municipality. There are several and each with its peculiarities.

For example, the most familiar and extensive is La Charca beach. Without a doubt, the most accessible. La Guardia beach is also very easy to reach and is well equipped with services, which is separated from the previous one by the rock of Salobreña.

Another long beach is Punta del Río, whose stretch of sand and gravel extends to the neighboring town of Motril. On the other hand, the much smaller Cambrón beach also has a more complicated access and lacks services. And the smallest of all is that of Caletón, very close to the La Caleta neighborhood.
