Cesky Krumlov, a beautiful city in the Czech Republic

According to many travelers, Cesky Krumlov is the most beautiful city in the Czech Republic. And those are major words, since we are talking about a country like the Czech Republic, whose capital is nothing more and nothing less than Prague and where there are many cities and towns that seem out of a story.

An excursion to Cesky Krumlov

Cesky Krumlov is located in South Bohemia and is not exactly close to Prague. It is located almost 180 kilometers from the capital and many daily excursions depart from there, although it is also possible and cheaper to arrive by bus or train. However, whatever the trip is done, we anticipate that it is worth spending the night there to discover all the magic of the place without haste.

And it is that in Cesky Krumlov there are many things to see and enjoy. Here we make a selection for you with what is essential, in case you finally decide to go in a hurry.

Cesky Krumlov Castle

The first thing that catches the attention of the population is the castle that rises above the urban area. Many of the rich estates inhabited by members of the Rosenberg and Schawanzenberg families, who for centuries ruled these Bohemian lands with an iron fist, are preserved here and can be visited.

The tour of the castle is a walk through the history of art, since here objects and decorations are preserved that provide us with a journey from the Gothic to the Baroque, passing through the Renaissance forms.

And besides that, in the castle there is a tower from whose top one has the best panoramic view of this old city surrounded by the meander formed by the river Vltava, which then continues on its way through the country towards Prague.

Town Hall Square

The ideal place to feel the presence of the river is the Cesky Krumlov Town Hall Square. The name of the square is evidently due to the presence here of the historic Town Hall (Radnice, in the local name). A Town Hall that was built in the 16th century and that is kept here with its white facade.

The rest of the square is a small, beautiful, elegant space flanked on two sides by water. It is one of the most photogenic places in the city, thanks to the colorful Renaissance facades of its buildings that seem to look at the baroque column that has risen in the square since 1715 to thank the end of a devastating plague that attacked the neighbors and killed to a large part of the population.

Latrán Street

This is the oldest road in Cesky Krumlov, and you will go through it if you want to go up to the castle. But it is not only a place of passage. She in herself is one of the main attractions of the city. Many of its elegant mansions from other times today are shops, restaurants and bars where you can drink a beer. Something absolutely essential anywhere in the Czech Republic, and especially in Bohemia.

In addition, along Latrán street you can also see several churches and a large monastery, which by the way the high leaders of the castle attended without stepping on the street. Look at the castle door, you will see a covered arch, because through that corridor they went from one place to another without mixing with the mob.

The wooden bridge

Among all the network of old streets you will come to a curious wooden bridge or Lazebnicky Most that separates the old city from the hill where the impressive castle rises.

So far we have cited at full speed what you have to see yes or yes, no matter how hasty your visit to the city is. But for those who are not in a hurry, the best thing they can do is forget about all this information or any other and, simply, dedicate themselves to getting lost in this place in Bohemia, the only way to discover all its magic, the forcefulness of its gastronomy and the strength of the surrounding places.

In fact, the Vltava River is born in the mountains near the city. That is why at this point its waters are still very rough. So much so that you can even go rafting and paddle through its waters as it passes through Cesky Krumlov, which undoubtedly provides a different and more beautiful perspective if possible.
