A Drive Through The Most Beautiful Villages In Alsace

A route by car through the most beautiful villages of Alsace

Alsace is one of the most beautiful regions in France, and it is especially so because of its rural surroundings. It is true that its great capital, the city of Strasbourg, is also worth a visit, but the Alsatian charm resides in its villages, in the vineyards and in the forests of the Vosges. That is why we have prepared this route by car through Alsace, visiting its most beautiful places.

An unforgettable route through Alsace

1. Colmar

Of the entire route that we have prepared for you, Colmar is the largest town, since more than a town it is a city. Although it is true that part of its historic center seems to be taken from a story. Its streets and its half-timbered houses are spectacular.

But if there is a special area, that is called “Little Venice”. A beautiful neighborhood where the water of the canals will allow you to get on a boat and have a different perspective of a city that you will not be able to forget

 2. Eguisheim

The next stop on our route through Alsace is the beautiful town of Eguisheim, one of those places that always appears in the lists that are made with the most beautiful towns in France. A small but magical place.

It is like a circular maze where you have to walk through its beautiful streets until you reach the central square, and once there, take another route to get out. Beautiful and fun.

3. Turckheim

This town has the honor of being one of the smallest towns on the route. It looks fast, although numerous photos are taken during the walk to reflect the beauty of the three portals to the village, its Place Turenne, the Great Ville and the traditional architecture of bright colors and wooden frames.

4. Kaysersberg

We continue the route and arrive at Kaysersberg, whose medieval route is bathed by the waters of the River Weiss. The truth is that in this place, as in almost any of the towns on this itinerary, it  will seem that we are entering a world where magical characters live and where extraordinary things happen.

Here, as in other Alsatian towns, we are going to contemplate a type of fantasy architecture, almost a lie. When strolling through its streets it is difficult not to think about the adventures devised by the Brothers Grimm.

5. Riquewihr

The charm of the towns lies in the fact that they are urban ensembles originating in the Middle Ages that maintain their homogeneity, although there are no large buildings that stand out from the ensemble. On the other hand, in the case of Riquewihr it can be said that it does have important monuments.

In this beautiful Alsatian town you have to stop in front of the Hôtel de Ville or Town Hall. And we must not lose sight of the powerful Torre Dolder, a true symbol of the population.

6. Ribeauvillé

All the towns named so far are very touristy, but perhaps one of the most famous is Ribeauvillé, located on the wine route. For that reason it is a good place to enjoy a good restaurant for dinner and even to look for accommodation.

Much better if you stop in the surroundings of the nearby Plaza de la Sinn or the Torre de Bouchers, two of the biggest attractions in the town. But its houses and its two churches are also worth it.

In some way,  we wanted to propose a route with the most spectacular and that, for example, can be done during a weekend. Although this territory of France requires a much longer stay to discover other beautiful towns such as Obernai, Selestat or Bergheim.

And, above all, it is worth taking time to explore the paths that connect these villages and where the famous Alsace vineyards are displayed. In some wineries you can enter to do tourist visits and taste the famous Alsatian wines.
