Its landscape contrasts, its bustling cities, its interesting traditions, its diversity and color tend to hook those who visit it. Today we give you the reasons why Morocco is worth admiring .

Reasons to admire Morocco

1. A country of legend

Morocco is a country of colors, contrasts and full of mysticism. It is located in the westernmost part of North Africa and only 14 kilometers from Spain crossing the Strait of Gibraltar.

Many civilizations had influence in this country, marking its territory and its culture, something that gave rise to a unique and incomparable historical heritage. Berbers, Phoenicians, Carthaginians and Romans have passed through its territory until the 5th century. These left the mark that shaped the character of this legendary country.

They say that it was Hercules who created Morocco by opening the Strait of Gibraltar. Although this is a myth, it has been proven that man has been in these lands for at least 300,000 years.

2. Colors dominate their territory

One of the attractions of Morocco are the colors that are present in all directions. The colors identify some of its most emblematic places. Thus we have Marrakech, known as “the red city”  because the buildings have been built with traditional materials such as red clay, the characteristic color of the medina.

We also have Chefchaouen, “the blue city”, located in the north of the country. This is one of the most beautiful places in the Rif Mountains. A place of houses painted white and blue, where its monochrome is only broken by the handicraft shops.

Yellow is found in abundance on riad walls, beautiful tiles, curries, turmeric, and handkerchief dyes. The orange is in the dunes and in the sands of its immense and impressive desert.

There is also green, that of its oases, its vast nature and its cords of palm trees. Finally we find a multicolored atmosphere in the square of tanners of Fez, with their dyes and skins, following ancestral traditions.

3. Its beaches and coastal cities

Morocco has 3,500 kilometers of coastline where there are beautiful beaches and charming coastal cities. There are beaches for all tastes, from small rocky coves to extensive sandy areas that will make you think that you are in the desert. There are also urban and crowded or deserted beaches that are perfect for practicing water sports.

In addition, its coastal cities are charming. Among them are Kenitra, Casablanca, Azemour, El Jadidad, Safi and Essaouira. Casablanca is one of the most cosmopolitan, a movie city where the contrast between traditions and modernity hides treasures that are worth discovering.

We cannot stop commenting on the beauty of Essaouira, with its European grid-shaped layout and its urban areas surrounded by ancient bastions that has conquered the hearts of many visitors. For this reason it has become a cosmopolitan summer resort.

4. Its magnificent massif of the Atlas

The High Atlas is a mountain range that runs from the coast of Morocco and includes the Toubkal National Park. There is the highest peak in the country, the Jbel Toubkal, with 4,160 meters. There are many outdoor recreational possibilities here, from snow sports to hiking.

Among the places of interest are the Todra Gorge, in the eastern part of the High Atlas. There is also Aït-Ben-Haddou, a mud brick city located on the edge of the mountains. And, of course, the Ouzoud Falls, a place of extreme beauty.

5. The beauty of the Draa valley and the Sahara desert

Another reason to admire Morocco is the Draa Valley, a route of beautiful and impressive citadels  nestled in an impressive landscape. The starting point is Ouzarzate, a beautiful adobe citadel. From there you continue to Zagora, following the Atlas Mountains until you find a drastic change of landscape, a large palm grove that gives way to the endless Saharan dunes.

Upon reaching the Sahara, a prodigious landscape formed by the sand and the ancient Berber villages can be admired. And to enjoy the essence of Morocco it is essential to sleep in a tent wrapped in absolute silence under an infinite blanket of stars.
