Mediterranean countries, first stop on the map of Europe

One of the Mediterranean countries par excellence is Italy, which offers multiple possibilities: discover the greatness of Rome; ride a gondola through the Venetian canals; photograph the Tower of Pisa; enjoy the gastronomy of Genoa or visit the open-air museum that is Florence. From there you can travel to Malta, whose capital, Valletta, has a very dense historical area.

Equally recommended is Greece. In it, not only Athens stands out with its historical monuments, such as the Acropolis or the Parthenon, but also its islands. Some of the most famous are Mykonos, for its dreamy beaches and lively nightlife; Crete, where to enjoy gastronomy; or Santorini, of a beauty and a unique geological configuration.

Other possibilities

Other Mediterranean countries that cannot be overlooked are Croatia, with cities as beautiful as Dubrovnik or natural parks such as the Plitvice lakes; Slovenia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Montenegro and Macedonia, which preserves an important Byzantine religious heritage.  And we must not forget Serbia, Bulgaria and Albania.

France and Spain are also bathed by the Mediterranean. In the first, we should mention Marseille, rich in cultural heritage, modern and dynamic; or Nice, one of the centers of the touristic Côte d’Azur. Regarding the second, Barcelona, Valencia, Malaga or the Balearic Islands are some of the destinations that delight tourists.

Atlantic Europe

Edinburgh in Scotland

From the countries bathed by the Mediterranean we pass to those that are bathed by the Atlantic Ocean. In this way, we meet again with France, but also with countries such as Belgium or the Netherlands. Its capitals stand out from both: Brussels, with its many points of interest, such as the Grand Place; and Amsterdam, with its beautiful canals.

From there we go to Great Britain and thus travel the wild valleys of the Highlands or the mysterious streets of Edinburgh ;  or get to know London and its mythical monuments first-hand (Big Ben, the Tower of London, Buckingham Palace…).

The next stop on our map of Europe is Ireland. In the “Emerald Isle” you can savor the delicious Guinness beer; marvel at the Cliffs of Moher or the Giant’s Causeway and visit enchanting Dublin.

In addition, the Atlantic Europe is made up of the Scandinavian countries : Denmark, of which its capital, Copenhagen, stands out; Finland, with its unique landscapes; Iceland, whose main attraction is natural phenomena; Norway, with its spectacular fjords; and Sweden, which is home to fourteen World Heritage Sites.

Central Europe

This part of the continent has countries like Germany. In it you can visit its capital, Berlin, whose historical importance is reflected in tourist attractions such as the Wall; Hamburg and its monuments; Cologne and its spectacular Gothic cathedral; or Munich. From there we moved to Poland, with cities as important and beautiful as Warsaw or Krakow.

On the other hand, Central Europe is home to one of the most famous tourist routes: the one known as the “imperial triangle”, which runs through the capitals of Austria, the Czech Republic and Hungary. The name is due to the fact that the cities that occupy us (Vienna, Prague and Budapest) are a reflection of the luxury and splendor of the old European empires.

Those who prefer mountain tourism can always travel to Switzerland, since the Alps occupy 70% of the country’s territory. Strolling through some of its most famous towns (Interlaken, Grindelwald…), while enjoying its privileged natural environment, is priceless. Although Switzerland is much more than landscapes. Zurich or Geneva are examples of this.

Eastern Europe

It is headed by Russia. Given that it is the largest European country, the possibilities it offers are numerous: touring the palaces of Saint Petersburg and moving back to the tsarist era; admire the greatness of Moscow; learn the history of Nizhny Novgorod through its architecture; or take a cruise on the Volga River to visit cities such as Kazan or Samara.

Other equally interesting Eastern European countries are Romania, Bulgaria, Ukraine, Moldova, Belarus, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. These last three can be visited together in order to discover at the same time the beauty of their capitals: Vilnius, Riga and Tallinn. In them we finish our tour of the map of Europe.
